How I got hereAdmittedly, I could have never expected I would find myself here, nor doing this…
As a teen, I didn’t relate to or believe in the horoscopes found in the newspaper. The descriptions for Capricorn didn’t suit me. Yes there were pieces that fit, but much that did not resonate.
Then in college, I had a friend was getting a psychic reading and asked if I wanted one.
I was curious… but not that curious. I didn’t want to know.
I was scared.
When I was about 26 a older man came up to me at the gym, “Can I guess your sign?”.
“Yah, sure”, whatever, he seemed harmless enough.
“Scorpio.”
“Nope- Capricorn.”
“Well, did you know you have more than one sign? There’s 10 of them. And one, your Rising Sign, is the image of how you appear to others when they first see you. I’m practicing it by guessing, and have a book you can borrow if you want to look yours up and find out.” He saw I was intrigued.
“Sure.”
The next day he brought the book.
I took it home, looked up my Ascendant, and sure enough-
I was a Scorpio Rising.
Then upon learning my Moon sign, Gemini, all the pieces of astrology began to fit.
Of course I didn’t relate to the boxed in version of Capricorn I read about; they are serious, determined, seemingly aloof, and beyond ambitious. Especially in my teens and still to this day- I’m a total goofball, the eternal child, light hearted, and full of animation.
*Bam* that was the Gemini piece I was missing.
Not only was I fascinated, I finally felt a sense of self acceptance.
Turns out there was nothing wrong with me; you can be one thing as well as another that seems to completely contradict it- and in that you are perfectly exactly what you are supposed to be.
Needless to say, I became hooked to learn everything I could about Astrology, and never stopped.
When I was 29, I experienced a devastating loss, my Father.
I was not ready (as you never are). Losing him rocked my world.
In the aftermath of the storm I found myself alone in silence, lost to reality, and sensed my life shattering beneath my feat. My worst fear was losing him, and sadly, it became true.
Since the worst thing I could imagine happened, and felt I had lost everything, it removed by fears.
I began exploring the mysteries of life and what happens after death, and it brought me back to consider getting a psychic reading. “Fuck it, there’s nothing they could tell me now that would scare me. I’ve got nothing to lose.”
When I finally went, what I found was not as I had feared.
It wasn’t scary- instead it was comforting, and exactly what I needed. I continued to get readings and proceeded to learn all that I could, studying and taking courses in Spirituality, Mysticism, and Theology. Through the wisdom gained, developing greater awareness, and learning how to interpret messages for myself, I’ve found a sense of security and inner knowing that has changed my life ever since. It’s the very thing that gave me the ability to finally get back on my feet again.
If you are familiar with the life passages of Astrology, the first biggie is your Saturn return.
For most they get married, have a child, start a new career, make a big move.
For me it wasn’t as pretty- but now 15 years later I can look back on my life and see it all unfolded exactly as it was meant to be. It’s made me who I am today, and showed me what I am here to do.
